Young children love to sing songs and listen to music. The songs that they learn when they are young are not forgotten, even to their old age. Early music training is an investment in their future. Even though young children’s hands and fingers are small, or they may not be able to recognize the alphabet or write their names, this should not stop a parent or teacher from letting a child explore playing the piano. Using the “play by color” method, little children can learn how to play the piano.
What Can Wash Away My Sin? is the first hymn that I teach my younger students. First, there are only four tones, so they only have to use four fingers, or just one finger, to play all the tones – helpful for little hands. Second, they do not have to turn their fingers over or under to play the next note.
