Description
Listen to the beginner piano arrangement of Come Ye Faithful Raise the Strain.
Come Ye Faithful Raise the Strain is one of the Christian church’s oldest hymns. It was written by John of Damascus who lived from around 675 to 749. He was a Syrian monk and priest. Although a priest, he had many interests and contributions which included law, theology, philosophy, and music. He is said by some sources to have served as a Chief Administrator to the Muslim caliph of Damascus before his ordination. He wrote works expounding the Christian faith, and composed hymns which are still used both liturgically in Eastern Christian practice throughout the world as well as Protestant churches. He is one of the Fathers of the Eastern Orthodox church.
