Guide to Major Scale Finger Positions In Every Key for Right and Left Hand
Scale practice is important for music training. It is foundational to a student’s studies, whether for learning the violin, guitar or the piano. Some of my first lessons as a young child with my classical teacher, Mrs. Nelson, were learning basic scales. Years later, when I returned to my music training as an adult, I didn’t have to learn my scales over again, they were already part of my “muscle memory.” I never forgot my finger positions – what finger to use to play the right key in each respective scale. I just had to start practicing them again. As a piano teacher, occasionally I have the opportunity to teach students who never learned their scales. They often struggle to play their music pieces correctly. It is difficult to play music if you are unable to properly reposition your fingers!
This guide will help the student know which fingers to use in the correct position to play each major scale in the right and left hand.
